International Centre for Emergency Preparedness Training INTER-CEPT was established in 1998 .The ultimate objective of the Centre is to facilitate cross-learning between the actors currently engaged in humanitarian response activities. INTER-CEPT is part of International network and a humanitarian, independent voluntary organization with an executive committee composed of persons having a long track record in the field of disaster /emergency response, disaster preparedness, rural development, training and humanitarian work. It comprises a network of resource persons and institutions that combine to support emergency preparedness and response capacity building throughout the world.

The International Centre for Emergency Preparedness Training, or INTER-CEPT, began 11 years ago with the aim of strengthening the operational capacity of Non-governmental organizations, government agencies and international organizations in the world to prepare for and respond to humanitarian emergencies, with a special emphasis on problems relating to forced migration and human displacement. The Center’s activities include organizing and delivering ,training, providing knowledge resources , and developing and maintaining a network of organizations and individuals in the world who are involved in emergency preparedness and response on a range of topics such as   disaster mitigation, seismic and cyclones hazards mitigation, flood hazard mitigation, technological hazards mitigation, crisis management, complex emergencies management, and community based approaches to disaster management. Other areas include international standards of protection, safety in the field, health, security risk management, media management, stress and training of trainers.

Close collaboration with practitioners and the private sector has enabled the group to produce a unique set of materials capturing the complexity and evolution of issues affecting the humanitarian sector. To date, the group has produced a body of work of over 20 research reports, case studies and other pedagogical materials. INTER-CEPT also periodically presents seminars and workshops. These sessions bring together professionals from various, disciplines and countries to share insights and practical experience and to encourage a broadening of individual and institutional perspectives.

Since its creation in 1998, INTER-CEPT has trained and accompanied those who commit themselves to humanitarian action:  Each year more than 300 people are trained in the specific skills of humanitarian and development activity (logisticians, administrators, project /program coordinators, water and sanitation experts etc…) Over the past 10 years INTER-CEPT’s alumni base has expanded to more than 3000 professionals working at senior and middle management levels in national and provincial governments, NGOs, International NGOs, the academic and the private sector. With the diverse professional backgrounds and the institutional relationships that INTER-CEPT Alumni represent, they constitute an excellent corps of qualified and dedicated individuals working towards the formulation of effective disaster management policies and demonstrated capabilities in their countries.

INTER-CEPT trained professionals are present throughout the humanitarian sphere, from Congo to Darfur, Somalia to Afghanistan, working to help vulnerable populations.
